How to Remove Color Transfer From a Light Bag

Color transfer is that faint blue-gray shadow a light bag picks up from dark denim, or a dark bag bleeding onto a pale one. It is incredibly common on white and beige bags, and the sooner you catch it the better your odds.

Fresh transfer lifts fairly easily. Once it has been sitting and setting for months, it gets much harder, so do not wait.

Start gentle

Wipe the area with a leather cleaner on a soft cloth, working in light circles. For coated canvas and smooth leather, a color-transfer remover made for bags is the most effective option, and a magic eraser used very lightly can help on coated canvas, but it can dull finishes so go easy and test first.

Do not soak or scrub hard

Aggressive scrubbing pushes the dye deeper and can strip the finish. Several gentle passes beat one hard one. If it will not budge, stop before you damage the leather and take it to a pro.
