How can we help?

Everything you need to know about using Purr — buying, selling, fees, shipping, authentication, subscriptions, and more. Can't find what you're looking for? Email hello@bypurr.com.

Getting Started

What is Purr?

Purr is a luxury handbag portfolio and peer-to-peer marketplace. Scan any bag to get an instant resale valuation, track your collection like an investment portfolio, and buy or sell directly to other collectors with fees 3-4x lower than traditional consignment sites.

How do I sign up?

Download the Purr app from the App Store (iPhone) or join the waitlist on our homepage. Signing up takes one tap with Apple or Google, or you can create an account with email.

Is Purr free to use?

Yes. Creating an account, browsing the marketplace, and your first 2 bag scans are free. After that, additional scans are available as a $4.99 one-time purchase, or unlimited with a Purr+ subscription. Selling is free to list — we take 10% of the sale price when your bag sells.

Which bags and brands does Purr support?

We support all major luxury handbag brands including Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Fendi, Prada, Celine, Loewe, Goyard, The Row, Balenciaga, and more. See the full supported brands list. If you have a bag from a brand we don't cover yet, you can request it from your profile.

Scanning & Valuations

How does bag scanning work?

Open the app and tap the camera icon. Point your camera at the bag — full front view works best, but any angle will work. Purr identifies the brand, model, size, material, color, and hardware, and shows you the current resale value range with a confidence score.

How accurate are the valuations?

Valuations are based on actual recent resale prices across major platforms, with more recent sales weighted more heavily. Bags with lots of comparable sales get a high-confidence valuation. Rarer pieces show a wider range. We're transparent about confidence — when we're not sure, we tell you.

Can Purr authenticate my bag?

The scan gives you a confidence score based on visible details, but photos alone can't fully authenticate a luxury item. For listings over $3,000, professional authentication is required — we partner with LegitGrails ($30, results typically in 6-12 hours). For listings under $3,000, authentication is optional. Once a bag is authenticated, the certificate stays attached forever, even if you decide to keep the bag instead of selling.

What if my bag isn't in the database?

If we can't confidently identify the exact model, we'll show you a generic description (e.g. "Quilted Shoulder Bag") and a conservative price range. You can always add manual notes. We'd rather give you an honest "we're not sure" than a confidently wrong answer.

Buying

How does buying work?

Browse the marketplace, find a bag you love, and either buy it at the listed price or make an offer. Your payment is held in escrow — the seller doesn't get paid until you receive the bag and confirm it's as described.

What is buyer protection?

Every purchase is protected. You have a 7-day inspection window after delivery to confirm the bag matches the listing. If there's a material issue (condition, authenticity, item not as described), you can open a dispute and we'll review. If the dispute is approved, we generate a free prepaid insured return label — your refund is processed automatically once the carrier confirms the bag is in transit back to the seller. A 3% buyer protection fee is added at checkout (shown as a separate line); it covers escrow, dispute review, and return shipping if you ever need it. If a dispute is resolved in your favor and you're fully refunded, the fee is refunded too.

How do offers work?

Two types of listings: "Buy Now" (fixed price) and "Open to Offers" (seller will consider offers). On any listing, you can submit an offer with a price and optional message. The seller has 48 hours to accept, decline, or counter. Accepted offers become active purchases immediately.

Who pays for shipping?

Most sellers offer free shipping (built into their asking price). For listings where the seller charges shipping separately, the cost is shown at checkout before you commit. Sellers get a prepaid label after the sale so they don't handle logistics.

Can I return a bag?

Returns are handled through the dispute process during the 7-day inspection window. If your dispute is approved, we generate a free prepaid return label and your refund processes once the bag is in transit back to the seller. Outside the inspection window, sales are final — so review photos carefully and ask the seller questions before committing.

Selling

How do I list a bag for sale?

From your closet, tap any bag and select “Sell This.” We pre-fill an asking price based on current market data, which you can adjust. Add photos, a description, and publish. First-time sellers complete a quick Stripe onboarding (5 minutes) so we can pay you out after a sale. If your asking price is over $3,000, your listing goes live as soon as the bag clears LegitGrails authentication — see Authentication for details.

What are your fees?

Sellers: a flat 10% of the final sale price. No listing fees, no subscription required to sell. Authentication is optional for most listings, but required and paid by the seller for any bag listed over $3,000 ($25 via LegitGrails). For comparison, The RealReal takes 40–60%, and Fashionphile pays around 70% of resale via buyout.

Buyers: a 3% buyer protection fee is added to each purchase at checkout, shown as its own line. It covers escrow, dispute resolution, and prepaid insured return shipping if a dispute is ever resolved in your favor. The fee is refunded with the rest of the transaction if you're fully refunded through a dispute.

"Open to Offers" — what is it?

If you're not ready to set a price, you can flip any bag in your closet to "Open to Offers." It appears in marketplace search without a listing price — interested buyers send you offers, and you accept, decline, or counter. No full listing required, no photos uploaded until someone offers.

When do I get paid?

Funds are released to your Stripe account once the buyer confirms receipt (or automatically 7 days after delivery if they don't raise an issue). From Stripe, payouts to your bank typically land within 2 business days.

How do I ship a sold bag?

We generate a prepaid shipping label immediately after sale. Print it, pack the bag securely (original box or dust bag if you have them), drop off at the carrier within 3 business days. Tracking is shared automatically with the buyer.

What if my bag doesn't sell?

Listings don't expire — they stay active until you pause or delete them. You can adjust the price anytime. If you're getting views but no offers, consider lowering the price or switching to "Open to Offers" to see what the market thinks.

Authentication & Condition

How is authentication handled?

Every scan includes a confidence score based on visible details. For listings over $3,000, professional authentication by LegitGrails is required and paid by the seller ($25, results typically in 6-12 hours). The bag is listed as “awaiting authentication” and goes live as soon as LegitGrails returns its verdict. For listings under $3,000, authentication is optional but available — and once a bag is authenticated, the certificate stays on the bag forever.

What does the authentication process look like?

From your closet, tap a bag and select “Get Authenticated.” We submit your photos to LegitGrails, who reviews them within 6-12 hours. If they need clearer photos of a specific angle (logo, made-in label, hardware engraving), you'll get a re-upload link. Once they finish, you'll see a “Verified Authentic” badge on the bag with a link to download the certificate. The certificate stays attached to the bag forever — even on bags you decide not to sell.

What if my bag fails authentication?

If LegitGrails determines a bag isn't authentic, the listing is cancelled and the bag returns to your private closet. We surface the specific detail that flagged the verdict so you can review or appeal. The $25 authentication fee is non-refundable since LegitGrails has already done the work. If the result comes back “inconclusive,” you can decide whether to re-submit with better photos or move on.

What do the condition grades mean?

  • Excellent — like new or very gently used, no visible wear
  • Very Good — minor wear, clean interior, no damage
  • Good — visible wear from regular use, fully functional
  • Fair — significant wear, scuffs, or minor damage

What if a bag arrives not as described?

Open a dispute within the 7-day inspection window. Document the issue with photos. We review typically within 24 hours. If the bag is materially different from the listing (wrong condition grade, undisclosed damage, authenticity concern), we generate a free prepaid return label — your refund processes automatically once the carrier confirms the return is in transit. If you don't ship the return by the deadline shown on your dispute, the dispute is closed and the seller is paid out.

Shipping & Tracking

Which carriers do you use?

We work with UPS, FedEx, and USPS depending on the destination and bag value. Shipments over $2,000 include signature confirmation and insurance by default.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently US-only. International shipping is coming — join the waitlist to be notified when it launches in your country.

Is my package insured?

Yes. Every shipment — outbound to the buyer and any return shipment from an approved dispute — is insured for the full sale price through Shipsurance via our shipping partner EasyPost, with adult-signature confirmation required at delivery. If a bag is lost or damaged in transit, the loss is covered by an insurance claim, not by you or the seller.

Purr+ Subscription

What is Purr+?

Purr+ is our premium subscription. It unlocks unlimited scans (free is 2 lifetime), unlimited closet items (free is 10), and the ability to respond to sourcing “in search of” requests. Posting ISOs, the wishlist agent, and price alerts are free for everyone because they drive marketplace activity. Platform fees stay the same 10% for sellers regardless of plan — Purr+ is about features, not fee discounts.

How much does Purr+ cost?

  • $9.99/month
  • $99.99/year — save 17% vs monthly

How do I cancel?

From your iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Purr+ → Cancel. Web subscribers can cancel from the billing link in your account settings. Cancelling keeps your access active through the end of the current billing period. Your bags, scans, and data stay in your closet forever — nothing is deleted when a subscription ends.

What happens if I downgrade?

Soft downgrade — nothing gets deleted. Existing bags stay visible in your closet. If your closet is over the 10-item free-tier limit, you'll see a gentle upgrade prompt but can still browse and sell. New scans beyond the free limit require a $4.99 one-time purchase or re-upgrading to Purr+.

Trust & Safety

How do you prevent counterfeits?

Listings over $3,000 require professional authentication by LegitGrails before they go live. Every listing carries a confidence score from our scan plus the seller's history (sales count, signups, response time) so you can read the room before you commit. Buyers have a 7-day inspection window to raise concerns with photos. Sellers who knowingly misrepresent items are removed from the platform and affected buyers are refunded.

What if I suspect fraud?

Report the listing or user from the app, or email trust@bypurr.com. We investigate all reports typically within 24 hours.

Is my payment information secure?

All payments are processed by Stripe. Your card data never touches Purr's servers. Stripe is PCI Level 1 certified and is the payment processor for Amazon, Shopify, and most of the internet.

How is my personal information handled?

We only collect what's necessary to run the app — account info, listing details, transaction records. We don't sell your data. Read the full Privacy Policy.

Account & Billing

How do I change my username?

From Profile → Settings → Edit Profile. Usernames must be unique — if the one you want is taken, try a variation.

How do I delete my account?

From Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account. This is permanent. Active listings are removed, pending transactions are cancelled or completed as appropriate, and your data is deleted within 30 days. Transaction records are retained as required by law.

Can I export my closet data?

Yes. Profile → Settings → Export Data generates a CSV of your closet with current valuations. Useful for insurance documentation or personal records.
